When Jerry lands a date with a Miss America contestant, Kramer volunteers to chaperone. Mr. Pitt hires Elaine to be his personal assistant. George encourages Yankee management to make the team jerseys from cotton.
Jerry invites Kramer to be his and Karen’s chaperone, a role he takes far too seriously. Jerry invites the gang to Atlantic City for the pageant, but Elaine cannot go due to sock troubles. George and Jerry discuss the Yankees switching to cotton jerseys.
Mr. Pitt meets with Elaine for an informal interview, commenting on how much she looks like Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and how she has the correct levels of “grace.”
George, while talking to Danny Tartabull in the locker room, decides the Yankees should wear cotton unis instead of polyester. Later, he convinces manager Buck Showalter to switch jersey materials.

Miss Rhode Island was one of the three delegates for the Miss America pageant that were at the Yankee game, after which Jerry asks her out. According to die-hard pageant fan Kramer, Rhode Island is never in contention in the pageant, but he agrees to chaperone her and coach her to victory.

The Miss America pageant takes place here, while Jerry and George head down for one of Jerry’s sets. Jerry inadvertently kills his girlfriend Karen (Miss Rhode Island‘s) doves, forcing her to sing for the first time during her talent portion.

Jerry, Karen…and Kramer go for dinner, and Kramer steals the spotlight from Jerry, ending the night by convincing Karen to become her coach and mentor for the Miss America pageant.
Kramer notes at the previous Miss America pageant, Miss Texas should have won easily, but lost points in the swimsuit competition because she didn’t tape her breasts together. Host Regis Philbin later announces Miss Rhode Island as following Miss Texas.
